The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Reveal a Latest Divinity, Declaring it Their Biggest RPG to Date

The anticipation surrounding The Game Awards was significant, especially after host Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic image of a desert monolith. The secret is finally answered. Larian Studios is working on a fresh Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer that included striking imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal descent into chaos.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian warned that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.

However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This choice of words hints that the team is likely designing a real-time experience rather than another turn-based title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is universally respected and it's fair to claim it pioneered the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, branching plots, and flexible progression—elements that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is traditional swords and sorcery, what truly sets Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust given to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs you can achieve by choosing a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.

The series is also wonderfully flexible, enabling players to find creative solutions in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be approached in a variety of manners, frequently in lateral fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you remembered something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by teleporting a glob of lava in a inventive way.

More to Come

It is precisely these elements that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, the RPG community can look forward to a new entry in this legendary franchise.
