From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a colorful mix of personalities, and a thrilling plot showcasing angels, fiends, and malevolent powers growing in strength within the city.
Note: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 are included.
The Warrior Group Revealed
The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and introduced the premier party of characters who will split off from the central cast to embark on their independent quest, apart from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (played by Travis), Thimble (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
Dividing the Cast
With an extensive roster, it was obvious from the start that maintaining everyone at the same party would be impossible.
Hence, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, weaving together the characters’ stories before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Planners, and Explorers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
Per the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for participants who are drawn to a typically action-packed battle-oriented narrative style where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might appear out of place, but the actions of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the combat party.
Reasons to Leave
First, the party knows exactly where to go next after a brutal first encounter with the enemy group.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose demise started the narrative’s action—manipulated the enemy for his personal gain, entering the hidden lair, striking Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to auction.
The traitor then paid off his debts and ran away to a fortified location in the northern region, above the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each character has a individual motive to leave the city the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the close ally and closest confidant, seeks vengeance.
- The adventurer is familiar with the northern area and cautions that it is a hostile place.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having defied his relatives’ demands to execute the fighter and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their position as important members in the influential clan could help the party access locations they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, The grateful character vowed a eternal obligation to The cleric for his deliverance and will now follow him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the authorities that govern Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making remaining behind dangerous:
- The rogue and The character are known criminals.
- The warrior and The cleric defied House Halovar and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
- The target is wanted dead by the clan.
This results in them little choice but to journey toward the northern region in search of Casimir.
Upcoming Developments
From the recent installment’s follow-up content, we learn that the warrior group will not appear the following episode, leaving the other eight cast members to form the Seekers and Schemers tables.
Viewers can look forward to finding out which adventurers will be in which group in the season’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on October 24.
